PRESS RELEASE/August 28, 2012: Oklahoma City Lands TKO by Hosting Its First Ever WBU Title Fight
As yet another sterling example of Oklahoma City’s ascent into the league of major sporting events, the World Boxing Union recently announced that local fans of the sport will be able to experience live the first ever WBU title fight in the history of Oklahoma on September 20 at the Cox Convention Center.
Known as “The Fight for Glory,” the battle will feature, the first title fight of any kind in the area in the past 40 years, local Oklahoma City favorite Noah Zuhdi (15-1, 12 KOs) against German Jurado (12-2 4, KOs), Panama City, Panama, with the winner receiving a belt as the WBU champion, a title that has recently international attention with a little help from Hollywood.
“Noah and German are fighting for the exact same title as did Mickey Ward, subject of the award winning film ‘The Fighter,’ said Don “Moose” Lewis, president of the WBU. “Because of that film, our belt is one of the most recognized in the world of boxing and I can’t wait for the fans inOklahoma City to be able to see us put it on the winner of this fight live and in person.”
Originally founded by Englishman John Robinson, a former boxing official, the WBU sanctioning group is currently among the five top of its kind in the country and features legitimate fighters, many in the earliest stages of long term, successful careers in the ring.
"Our association boasts having Joe Louis III as one of top executives,” Lewis said, “while many members of our board have deep connections to American boxing legends, such as Rocky Marciano. WBU former champions have ranged from George Foreman to Thomas ‘Hitman” Hearns.”
According to Lewis, hometown favorite Noah Zuhdi, currently the USA Oklahoma State Lightweight Champion, holds a marked distinction in the world of boxing
“Noah is a licensed practicing attorney in Oklahoma City. His strict training regimen and approachable manner have made him extremely popular in fighting circles,” he said. “He is extremely methodical in the ring – he comes in with a plan and doesn’t let up until he has it completed.”
While Panamanian Jurado has yet to make his mark in American boxing, Lewis says that he will be the toughest opponent Zuhdi has faced in his career.
“I expect this fight to go down to the last second, the last punch,” he said.
Produced by catBOX Entertainment, as part of the Tecate Boxing Series, tickets for Zuhdi – Jurado, with a strong undercard of fights, are available by calling 1-866-966-1777 or by going to www.ticketstorm.com.

PRESS RELEASE. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE/July 23, 2012. On September 20, 2012, Attorney Noah Zuhdi will be entering a different kind of adversarial venue. Rather than a courtroom, Zuhdi will be climbing through the ropes and stepping into a boxing ring to fight for the WBU World Lightweight Championship Title in the Main Event against his opponent, boxer German Jurado (12-2, 4 KOs) of Panama City, Panama.
Zuhdi, the current USA Oklahoma Lightweight Champion, who has a professional career of 15 wins and only one loss, with 12 KOs notched under his belt, began his fight career while he studied law at The University of Oklahoma School of Law. After spending the bulk of his youth and college career as a decorated point guard for various basketball teams, upon graduating from college, Zuhdi began the rigors of training to become a boxer. His first professional fight was in 2007 and he won the USA Oklahoma Lightweight title in 2008. One year later, Zuhdi passed the bar in September 2009. Noteworthy, in professional boxing history, Zuhdi is one of very few individuals who passed the bar while actively pursuing a fight career. And to win the world title while practicing as an attorney? Zuhdi will stand alone in history.
The fights will be held on September 20, 2012 at the Cox Center in downtown Oklahoma City. Not only is Zuhdi making history but this is only the second World Title fight in Oklahoma City history -- the last World Title fight being over 40 years ago.
