James "Quick" Tillis to receive catBOX's Lifetime Sports Achievement Award
James Tillis, the legendary boxer who fought seven different world heavyweight champions, including defeating Earnie Shavers, was recently elected to receive catBOX Entertainment, Inc.’s Lifetime Sports Achievement Award. Tillis, whose fighting prowess named him the “quick” “fighting cowboy” will be honored with the award before the main event at catBOX’s professional fight card set for February 11, 2010 at Remington Park Casino in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
A native of Tulsa Oklahoma, Tillis has won hearts with his gentleness outside of the ring but his fearlessness inside has been legendary. Throughout his pro boxing career, Tillis proved he could win 42 times and retired in 2001 with a professional record of 42-22 (31 KOs) and one draw. Tillis’ longtime trainer was famed Angelo Dundee. In addition to earning acclaim as being the first man to take Mike Tyson to the distance, though losing to Tyson in a ten round decision, Tillis has fought many other recognizable world champions, including Evander Holyfield, Frank Bruno, Greg Page, Gerrie Coetzee, Carl Williams and Tim Witherspoon.
A man of faith, integrity, talent, sportsmanship and tenacity, on February 11, Tillis will be honored as such by receiving the first Lifetime Sports Achievement Award given by catBOX Entertainment.
